Rene Kent had been here before; she had lost everything that meant anything to her. She had once been a street prostitute before she had met Donavan Graystone. For the first time in her life she was in love. They married and had a child together. Donavan was the artistic director of a big New York dance company and Rene had become one of his best dancers. That was when things were the best they had ever been for her. Then one day a new young female dancer comes to the company and Rene becomes overwhelmed with jealousy because of the beautiful young woman that Donavan seems to be spending too much time with. When Rene finds out she will not be going on tour with The Dance Company she takes their son Charles and leaves Donavan. With no way to make a living she returns to the streets again. It doesn’t take long for her to become a junkie once more. When her mother Debra Edwards finds out where Rene is living and that she’s gone back to the streets she has two year old Charles taken away from her. Because Debra called the police Rene goes to jail for six months for the endangerment of her child. The day she is released she calls Donavan, he tells her she can’t see her son again. She stayed clean until she was off of parole and that was the day Rene Kent was born, Rene was not her birth name. She goes underground and her family can’t find her. Back on drugs again she almost dies, fact is she doesn’t care anymore, life isn’t worth living without her son. She is so stoned out of her mind with the drugs she doesn’t even remember that she had given birth to a baby girl that she had named Samantha Leigh Kent. Not until a social worker shows up at her door and wants her to give up her baby to the state. This sobers Rene up and she fights to get her beautiful baby girl back. For seven years her life was blessed, Samie has become her world. Then she finds out she has cancer and becomes very ill. When a family member sees her and then tells her mother where she is, Debra has Samie taken away from Rene. Now Rene doesn’t know if she has the strength to fight the cancer and to get her child back. Standing in the cross roads of her life she has to make a decision.

Don't let simple title fool you. This book is jam-packed with many ups and downs in different timeline events. No spoiler though, i like how the author weaved each character's connections between them plus the conversations of course. Definitely a good read. It was entertaining and very engaging.
