I'm giving this 5 stars due to how closely resembles my wife and I. We originally got this book from the library to read to our 2 year old, but she wasn't interested in it. After the first read, I thought the story was very cute and heartwarming with remarkable similarities to my wife and I. I then came to Amazon and ordered this for my wife for mother's day and it's a special book just for the 2 of us. We might let our child read it when they are older.

This book is a sweet story of a boy named Oliver who is a little bit different, a little bit quieter, a little bit awkward. As the mother of an Oliver who is darling and delightful but definitely not always one to join in the crowd, this was a needed book both for my son AND for me. A charming tale reminding us that different is ok. And the happy ending is also such a sweet beginning.
There are so many great things about "Oliver," it's difficult to know where to start.

Oliver is different, and that's OK. He has great imagination and he's happy being alone with himself. He also realizes that it's OK to be friends with other people. That he might not be the only one who is different. And sometimes you don't know something is missing until you find it.

Birgitta Sif's story speaks to children as well as adults. Many people who have children of their own will recognize glimmers of themselves in Oliver's tale.

Beautifully stylized illustrations pull the whole book together. This is one of my favorite picture books in a long time.
Oliver is a unique individual who finds contentment in books and imaginary play with his stuffed friends. Even without a real breathing friend he leads an adventurous life and is never bored. However, the old saying that “there is a mate for every shoe” holds true and Oliver discovers a kindred spirit in Olivia and they begin a new series of adventures together. I loved Birgitta Sif’s sweet simple story and beautifully subdued illustrations.
I didn't like the story line and almost returned it. It makes Oliver seem to be a loner with not friends

Had to get this as my husband and son are named Oliver. Saw book at library about kid who is a little different.
I love this book. The illustrations are just so amazingly adorable. I got it for a nephew named Oliver. It's just so cute!!
